Are you ready for the new national Occupational Health and Safety Laws? 1 January 2012 is looming upon us when you will need to comply with these laws.
The new OH & S laws will affect all businesses. Nationally, all managers and business owners will be personally responsible for the safety of their staff. Penalties include up to five years jail and fines of up to $600,000. Are you able to prove that you have provided “appropriate training” as stated in the Act to all members of staff, Health and Safety Representatives, Committee Members, Leaders and even CEOs ensuring that you have done everything possible to prevent workplace accidents and maintain a safe work environment? If not, let IPS Institute help you. We believe that “appropriate training” is training that is nationally accredited and recognised training. It is training that is assessed, and people are deemed “competent” with a piece of paper to prove it.
Staff – must be aware of and be responsible for managing workplace health and safety issues.
Workplace Health and Safety Representatives – must understand OHS laws and their responsibilities to keep employees safe.
Nominated Committee Members – maintain a safe working environment for employees and others via a consultative approach to safety, being the conduit between staff members and management.
Leaders (including business owners) – develop a safe culture in your workplace as you are legally obliged to do under the new laws.
